The Great Dictator

In 1958 Charlie Chaplin re-released his first all-talking picture, The Great Dictator, in which he played the dual role of the Dictator, Adenoid Hynkel, and the lookalike barber.

As with all of his carefully prepared re-issues, new posters and advertising materials were created for this release, with the artwork focusing on the Dictator and the globe, to reflect the scene in which Hynkel gets carried away with his ambitions.   Over the last few years, original materials from the 1940 release have seen a big increase in the prices they achieve at auction, so the 1958 versions provide a more affordable but still very attractive option.

The Lobby Cards for this release all feature key scenes from the film, as well as the new poster artwork as border art, creating a very attractive overall design.  In this original card, Chaplin as the barber prepares to give a hairdressing makeover to Paulette Goddard, as the Girl.
