What does ‘original’ movie poster mean?

It means a poster (or lobby card) that was produced specifically for cinemas to use to advertise the film at the time of its release or, in some instances, re-release. They were made as disposable advertising and were never intended to be sold to the public. They are different from licenced prints, or from the ‘studio’ prints sometimes released to fan clubs of blockbuster franchises such as Star Wars.

None of our posters are reproductions.

Do original film posters go up in value?

Not every poster is valuable, and although prices generally have risen over the last twenty-plus years, we never advise anyone to buy posters merely as investments. We prefer to say buy a piece because you like it and will enjoy seeing it on your wall, and provided you look after it, the chances are its value will increase over the years.

Why are some film posters folded?

Until at least the 1970s, almost all full size posters were sent folded to the cinemas. It’s not a flaw in any way. But many of our pieces have been conservation linen backed, which also minimises or eliminates fold lines.

What sizes can I order?

Original movie art came in many different shapes, sizes and nationalities. But because these are all original materials, not every image is available in every size, and indeed the images used in different formats of posters and lobby cards for the same films very often used different scenes, images and designs. Please see our Sizing Guide for more information.

Do you ship abroad?

Yes, we can ship to most destinations in the world. But for our international clients we strongly recommend sending your purchases unframed and rolled in strong, protective tubes, or flat packages so you can have your purchases framed locally. Please see our Ordering and Shipping page for more information.

Do you have every poster that is on your Website?

Absolutely (unless we’ve made a mistake somewhere). It may not be in the Gallery as we have off-site storage as well, but we never advertise anything that we don’t already own. If you’re making a special visit to our Gallery to look at any particular piece, please let us know beforehand so that we can ensure that it is here when you come.

What is your Returns Policy?

All sales are final unless we have agreed with you before that a purchase may be returned or exchanged. UK and EC distance sale purchasers have limited rights of return, which are set out in our Terms and Conditions.

And this is not intended to reduce your statutory rights in the event that your purchase is damaged or not as described.

More details can be found on our Shipping and Returns page.

What is linen backing?

Linen backing is a conservation and preservation technique that minimises fold lines so a poster will lie completely flat once framed. Many of our higher value posters have already been linen backed but for other items we can also offer linen backing. Please see our Linen Backing guide for more information.

Do you frame posters?

Yes we do. Please see our Framing Guide for more information.

Can I order pieces that aren’t on your Website?

We put a lot of inventory on this Website, but we always have more stock that we haven’t listed, so it’s worth contacting us if you’re looking for something that you can’t find here. And if we don’t have what you’re looking for, we are always happy to try and source a particular piece for you, or to let you know if it comes into stock.

Do you buy posters as well as sell them?

We’re always happy to look at collections or individual pieces – please contact us by email first with details of titles, formats and conditions.

Where do you buy your posters?

We have been collectors and dealers for decades, and have many friends, contacts, dealers, collectors, auction houses and other suppliers around the world. As these are authentic and individual original pieces, there is no one place to find them.
