A superior tv comedy spin-off.

The Sid James vehicle, Bless This house, was one of the 1970s most popular tv sitcoms, running from 1971 to 1976, until Sid’s early death.

This adaptation from 1972 worked as a cross between that and a Carry On film, produced by Peter Rogers, directed by Gerald Thomas, and starring not only Sid but also Terry Scott and June Whitfield as the prospective in-laws, Peter Butterworth (as next-door neighbour Trevor) and others, including Bill Maynard.  And a taste of British comedy to come, with future Confessions star, Robin Askwith, replacing Robin Stewart as son, Mike.

The result was not only a top grossing film in 1972, but also a less bawdy Carry On style comedy that has aged rather well.

This is an original UK (country of origin) Quad cinema poster from the movie’s first release, and benefits from typically fun artwork by Arnaldo Putzu.
