Who Put the Boot In
Just occasionally we come across a rare piece that has nothing to do with film. This poster is an example of that.
An original Quad poster for The Who’s legendary 1976 gig at Charlton Athletic Football ground, with a great design incorporating a football to reflect where the gigs were held and sketches of the band, including Daltrey’s flying microphone.
The concert was part of a mini-tour of three football stadiums, but this concert made headlines for several reasons: first off, due to fake tickets being sold, more than 120,000 tried to crowd into the stadium instead of the 70,000 that was planned; second, the concert put the band in the Guinness Book of World Records as the loudest band in the world (overtaking Deep Purple who had previously held the title) and, finally, although there were early technical and crowd control difficulties the band were generally thought to have given an absolutely brilliant show.
