One of Robert Mitchum’s two most chilling characterisations (the other being in Night of the Hunter), this is a thriller that really holds up well.  When it was remade thirty years later, even Robert de Niro couldn’t quite make his Max Cady more terrifying than Mitchum’s.

Gregory Peck and Polly Bergen both put in solid performances, but this film is really all about Mr Mitchum, one of the most underrated actors to emerge from the Hollywood star system.

This original cinema release US Lobby Card from 1962, #2 in the set of 8 produced, has a nice shot of Bergen in Mitchum’s arms, as well as featuring all three main stars in the border artwork.
