Very loosely based on the book Isak Dinesen wrote about her time in Africa (under pen-name Karen Blixen), the 1985 Sydney Pollack directed Out of Africa starred Meryl Streep (Karen Blixen), Robert Redford (Denys Finch Hatton) and Klaus Maria Brandauer (Bror Blixen).

Set in the first part of the 20th century in British Colonial East Africa, the film won 7 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and tells the story of a young Danish woman who moves to the country we now know as Kenya to marry a Swedish nobleman.

Although it is a marriage of convenience they buy land, establish a coffee plantation and become part of colonial life, until handsome adventurer Denys (Redford) arrives and Karen finds true love.
