Mission: Impossible

In 1996 Brian De Palma directed Tom Cruise in a film loosely based on the 1960s tv series of the same name, and as a challenge to the then slightly flagging Bond series.

The result was a massive hit, and the creation of a new long-running cinema franchise, with Tom continuing to impress as Ethan Hunt.
