Anita Loos wrote But Gentlemen Marry Brunettes as a sequel to her earlier Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, which was made into one of Fox’s biggest hits of 1953, starring Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell.

In 1955, this follow up movie appeared, without the same characters, and with only Jane Russell and Anita Loos in common with the earlier film.  Russell was teamed with Jeanne Crain, and with a supporting cast that included Rudy Vallee.

The artwork used in its cinema advertising and marketing campaigns was very reminiscent of GPB, using again a “two showgirls” image, and also featuring an Eiffel Tower which adds to the similar feel.  But because the film was less popular, original posters are significantly more affordable than those for the Russell/Monroe outing, and provide a nice alternative option.

This is a  very rare UK Quad poster from the movie’s original release, with the same great artwork of Russell and Crain, but more colour than the US posters, as well as Paris, jazz and dancers.
