The Deer Hunter
Michael Cimino’s 1978 epic exploration of the effect of the Vietnam war on post-war lives back home has lost none of its power over the decades.
With John Williams’ Cavatina as its haunting theme music, the film featured top performances from a powerhouse ensemble cast. De Niro was nominally the lead, but the only acting Oscar went to Christopher Walken. It also won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Sound and Best Film Editing.
Its powerful imagery was well conveyed by its original cinema advertising campaign, and this is one of the set (of only 4, rather than the usual 8) Lobby Cards produced for the movie’s first release. It features all four of the male leads at the wedding party, as well as the Deer Hunter poster imagery in the border, to tie in with the other promotional materials.
