They were both over 90, but we were still sorry to hear of the passing of writer/lyricist Leslie Bricusse and dancer Lionel Blair.

Leslie had a formidable body of film work, including the book and score for Doctor Dolittle, but not many people realise that he co-wrote two of the greatest Bond songs, the title tracks for Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice.

Lionel was a much loved personality and performer on British tv for decades, with few and far between movie credits. But he’s there in “blink or you’ll miss it” cameos in A Hard Day’s Night and Absolute Beginners.

We were saddened to hear this week of the death of Charlie Watts.

With the Rolling Stones since the band began, he was not only the musical backbone, but also the calming personal influence in the middle.

Unlike some of his band-mates, he didn’t try his hand at acting. But he can be seen on the drums in the cinematic releases of live footage, such as Gimme Shelter, Ladies and Gentlemen and Let’s Spend the Night together.
