Anita Loos wrote But Gentlemen Marry Brunettes as a sequel to her earlier Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, which was made into one of Fox’s biggest hits of 1953, starring Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell.

In 1955, this follow up movie appeared, without the same characters, and with only Jane Russell and Anita Loos in common with the earlier film.  Russell was teamed with Jeanne Crain, and with a supporting cast that included Rudy Vallee.

The artwork used in its cinema advertising and marketing campaigns was very reminiscent of GPB, using again a “two showgirls” image, and also featuring an Eiffel Tower which adds to the similar feel.

As is so often the case with sequels/follow-up films, this one was less popular than Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, but for many the poster is desirable not just for the artwork but because of the title!
