Roman Holiday

Winning three Oscars, Roman Holiday starred Audrey Hepburn as the bored young princess in Rome on a Royal tour who briefly escapes those looking after her to have an adventure in the eternal city, and Gregory Peck (Joe) as the newspaper man she meets along the way.

Along with Joe’s photographer, Irving, (Eddie Albert) the three have a day of sightseeing and fun, but all is not as it seems.

Nominated five times in her career for the Best Actress Oscar, this was the only role for which  Hepburn won (although she was also posthumously awarded Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award).

The film, and Hepburn, were so popular that it was re-released cinematically in 1960, and then again in 1962 after the massive commercial success of Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

This original US One Sheet poster is from that 1962 release, and benefits from lovely images of Hepburn and Peck, references to her Oscar and to Tiffany’s, and not forgetting the scooter.
