The summer of 1975 brought with it one of cinema’s biggest blockbusters of all time.

Co-written by the author of the book on which it was based, Peter Benchley, and directed by the new wonder kid, Steven Spielberg, it pretty much set the template for blockbuster action movies.

A tale of an American beach resort terrorised by a giant shark, it featured thrills, suspense, humour and some social/political commentary.  The cast headed by Robert Shaw, Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss was on top form, the mechanical (pre CGI) shark was not bad, and the soundtrack by John Williams was perfect.

Original movie posters and other materials from this title are highly sought after, and over the last ten years their value has probably tripled.  The main movie poster image featuring the swimmer and the shark was designed by Roger Kastel, and has attained cult status.

The original US Lobby Cards, produced as a set of 8 for the movie’s first release, all feature that design prominently as border art, as well as scenes from the film.  This is card #5, a nice shot of Chief Brody and his wife.
