Dancing in the Street
It was originally intended that Jagger and Bowie, both part of Live Aid but performing on different continents, would perform together but it turned out the delay caused by the satellite link would make that impossible. The first solution put forward was that one of them would sing live and the other would mime, but neither wanted to do this.
So it was decided they would record the song and film a video to go with it that would be shown live on the Live Aid screens on both sides of the Atlantic during the concert.
The video received mixed reviews with some thinking Jagger and Bowie’s dancing antics were too light-hearted for the situation but ultimately the charity single served its purpose as it went to Number 1 in several countries including the UK.
This is the poster that was produced to promote the single.
