Bringing Up Baby
The classic example of screwball comedy, 1938’s Bringing Up Baby starred Katharine Hepburn as a wealthy heiress pursuing the affections of Cary Grant as a paleontologist (decades before Ross in Friends).
Original cinema advertising materials for the original 1938 release of Bringing Up Baby are gold dust. They hardly ever come on the market and when they do, they command premium prices, as a result of the age and cult status of the movie, combined with the fact that it wasn’t a commercial success at the time, so very few posters and lobby cards actually went into circulation.
A good alternative while you wait or save up is this great example of an original US Lobby Card for the 1955 cinematic re-release. New artwork was created for this campaign, and the 1955 cartoon version of Baby features prominently in the border art, being pushed in a pram by Hepburn and Grant in classic poses.
This is card #1 from the original set of 8, and has Grant, Hepburn and Barrie Fitzgerald in the featured scene.
