1962’s Bird Man of Alcatraz brought the story of the (then still living) murderer, but friend of birds, Robert Stroud to the screen.
It won 4 Oscars, including Actor (Burt Lancaster), Supporting Actress (Thelma Ritter) and Supporting Actor (Telly Savalas).
Its original advertising campaign used appropriately stark and powerful imagery, designed (according to most commentators) by the great graphic artist Saul Bass.
This is an original US Half Sheet, a rarer format than the regular One Sheet, which we think shows the art to its best advantage.
